Maersk Essen, a ship bound for Xiamen, a port city in southwestern China, has lost approximately 750 containers on its way to Los Angeles.

After sailing from Xiamen a few days ago, the vessel, with a capacity of 13100 20-foot containers, lost 750 units in the North Pacific on  January 16th.

This accident is mostly due to storm surges because of the winter conditions which happen in the ocean. Recalling that just over a month ago, on November 30th, 2020, the largest such tragedy of the decade occurred, when the ship One Apus lost 1816 containers on its way from Yantian, China, to Long Beach, California.

For now, they have sent a statement informing that all crew members are safe, while they assess the losses that have occurred, and notify the Coast Guard and the relevant US authorities of the facts.

The representatives of Maersk report that they will thoroughly investigate other causes that may have led to this accident, in order to increase in the future the safety of the ships and their respective operations. Currently, they are in continuous communication with the affected users.
